Apparently nobody ever bothered to tell Denmarks the Blue Van that Howlin Wolf isnt the influence-of-the-hour for budding rock bands that he was back when the Stones were first getting rolling. Or that Yardbirds-style band rave-ups arent near as trendy these days as, you know, drum loops and guest DJs and simpering emo screams and such. Nobodys told em, or more likely, they just dont care and alls the better. These four young Danes have been banging out their swaggering mix of 60s-style, blues-inspired rock n roll since they were 12, though they kept it in the garage until they felt old enough and good enough to confidently show the world how real rock n roll is supposed to sound. The result? The Art of Rolling, the Blue Vans full-length debut and the best slab of perfectly imperfect rock since the Stones, Kinks and Who each made their own debuts in the early 60s. Rolling Stones David Fricke, duly impressed, calls it retro fun with forward purpose.
