New Orleans Social Club is a gathering of some of the finest instrumental, singing and songwriting talents from the Crescent City that convened six weeks after the devastation wrought on their city by Hurricane Katrina at a studio here in Austin. Their objective? To revive the musical spirit of New Orleans (and raise relief funds) by recording the acclaimed album Sing Me Back Home. At the core of the club are famed players Henry Butler (piano), Ivan Neville (organ), Leo Nocentelli (guitar) and George Porter, Jr. (bass) and Raymond Weber (drums). Joining them on the album and at performances has been a rotating cast that includes Dr. John, Irma Thomas, Marcia Ball, Cyril Neville, Willie Tee, John Boutte and other gifted Crescent City stars. No matter who show shows up onstage for the Social Clubs debut Austin City Limits Music Festival performance, one things for sure: their collective voices and passion will be a stirring testament to the redemptive power and unbreakable spirit of New Orleans rich musical legacy.
