Though itll forever be hearing requests for Popular, Nada Surfs crossover single from 1995, most recently this decade-old outfit has focused less on being acerbic in its songwriting and more on becoming Americas answer to Snow Patrol. Always Love, from the groups 2005 album The Weight Is a Gift, was pure, tender-voxed, jangly guitar bliss. The New York-based band came together after frontman Matthew Caws met bassist Daniel Lorca in high school. After the groups original drummer left, Ira Elliot joined the fold, and not long after, the Cars Ric Ocasek came onboard to produce their debut, High/Low. Since then, the trio has released three more albums, including last years Gift, which Death Cab for Cutie Chris Walla produced.
