Kathleen Edwards

Conspicuously missing in action at last years Austin City Limits Music Festival was one Kathleen Edwards conspicuous, that is, because the highly touted Canadian folk-rock singer-songwriter was scheduled to play the festival, but had to cancel at the last minute due to hurricane weather scotching her travel plans. That was a bummer, but the bright side is that her performance this year will no doubt be twice the treat for both Edwards and her fans; nothing whets an appetite like a rain check. Edwards became an alt-country critical darling seemingly overnight with the 2003 release of her U.S. debut, Failer, an album brimming with tales from the life of a tough chick with a big heart in a strange world. Both the subject matter and Edwards jagged edge earned her many a favorable comparison to such forebears as Lucinda Williams, but with last years even more assured Back to Me, she proved herself to be not just the next best thing but a rising Americana music goddess in her own right.
