Grow up on a boat literally with nothing but the sea and your family to keep you company, and youre bound to either go crazy or get really introspective and creative. Fortunately, Mishka took the later path, following the lead of his older sister, songwriter Heather Nova. After a youth spent soaking up his Canadian parents Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan albums (and Caribbean radio) as much as the West Indies sun, Mishka eventually came ashore and somewhat reluctantly staked his claim as one modern reggae-pop musics most soulful young singer-songwriters. His 1999 self-titled debut put him on the map, and last years equally acclaimed One Tree proved that, even though he may take his sweet time between releasing records, hes worth waiting for.
