Liberty Tavern
This Hilton establishment with a touch of patriotism serves home-cooked American favorites. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, a place where you can take thefam. They’re open for three meals a day, so you can pencil in that chicken-fried steak with ease. 500 E. Fourth

The Library
Sigma, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Epsilon, and Pi. They’re all there, especially on Thurdays for college nights. This wood-planked, scholarly establishment has pool tables upstairs and enjoys quite a crowd on the weekends. 407 E. Sixth, 236-0662

The Lobby Lounge at the Four Seasons
Did you know that Austin's "official drink" is called the Batini? Neither did we. Nevertheless, you can swill Batinis at the Lobby Lounge, housed, appropriately enough, in the lobby of the Four Seasons. On second thought, you'd better sip: It is the Four Seasons, after all, and you don't want to appear gauche. The lounge also offers "light fare" and "hors d’oeuvres," known in more common establishments as "snacks" and "appetizers." 98 San Jacinto, 685-8150 www.fourseasons.com/austin/vacations/quick_facts.html

Lovejoy's
Home to the one of the area's most thoroughly "mixed crowds," Lovejoy's is small enough to get packed with laidback astuteness, tattooed and pierced, old and young. Nevertheless, there's always plenty of bar to go around, plus quarter pool tables, good ol' rock music, and a buzz at happy hour. 604 Neches, 477-1268

Mexic-Arte Museum
This old and new school Mexican and Latino art gallery hosts extraordinary fine art traveling collections, is a culturally and socially relevant wonder, and home to one of the most eclectic Latino gift shops in a good radius. These folks know how to throw a party, their opening night receptions are not to be missed. 419 Congress, 480-9373 www.mexic-artemuseum.org

Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill
With stone and wood accents, the warmth is palpable. Comf. Classy. Casual. And the food is an elegant take on the same: comfort. Also, private parties can rent out one of Austin's last standing "Sunday Houses," (in the 1860's settlers came to Austin for church services and were allowed a free night's stay) for a unique intimacy that'll send ya' back in time, Marty McFly. Like we said, it's like grandma's … so dress up a bit. And mind your manners. 303 Red River, 236-9599 www.moonshinegrill.com

Mooseknuckle Pub
Maybe it's the title of Fanny Pack's male equivalent of the camel toe. Maybe. Or maybe it's just a cozy, woodsy bar with "Big Ass Beer" specials, cheap wells, and a back patio shared with the Jackalope. Either way, you'll get a drink, a sit, and a new appreciation for loose jeans. 406 E. Sixth

Mugshots
From the Barfly's guys, who know what makes a good bar. Good drinks, good tunes, and pictures of celebrities and no-names posing for the po-po's on all the walls. There's even a photo booth to take your own line-up pose. The jukebox is one to ponder over with folding cash in hand, with a simple bar and a mellow aftertaste. Very mellow. Who knows, you might even see someone you know. On the wall. 407 E. Seventh, 326-0008

Nuno's on Sixth
Local music eight days a week with plenty of happy hour residencies to boot. Upstairs serves as a 2006 SXSW venue. 422 E. Sixth, 833-5133 www.aaaustin.com/calendar
